Shortly before the 2016 election, the emergence of the Access Hollywood tape showing Trump casually discussing sexual assault sent shockwaves across the nation. Despite this undeniable proof of Trump’s misogyny, the reality TV star went on to win the election and has since presided over one of the most incompetent and disorganized administrations in modern history.
Since announcing his run for president, Trump has been plagued by reports of B-roll footage from The Apprentice that depicts him using a variety of racist and sexist slurs. In her new book, former Trump aid Omarosa Manigault Newman claims that she can not only confirm the existence of tapes showing Trump using such vile language, but that she experienced his virulent racism firsthand working in the White House.
According to Manigault Newman, Trump spewed a number of vicious epithets directed at Kellyanne Conway’s husband after he criticized the flailing president. Trump purportedly said: “Would you look at this George Conway article?” she quotes the president as saying. “F**ing FLIP! Disloyal! Fucking Goo-goo.” Conway’s husband is half Filipino.
Manigault Newman also explains in the book how she slowly came to terms with her boss’ bigotry: “It had finally sunk in that the person I’d thought I’d known so well for so long was actually a racist. Using the N-word was not just the way he talks but, more disturbing, it was how he thought of me and African Americans as a whole.”
Whether or not the The Apprentice tapes will see the light of day is uncertain. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which hold the rights to the footage, has refused to discuss its existence.
