On Saturday, August 5, a bomb went off outside a Mosque on the outskirts of Minneapolis. As worshippers gathered at the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center, the explosion destroyed a room and shattered glass, luckily sparing the 20 individuals present.
Mark Dayton – Minnesota’s Governor – declared the attack “a criminal act of terrorism.”
To the horror of many, Trump has yet to utter a single word about the incident, much less condemn it outright. Recall that it took days for him to address the two individuals who were stabbed by an Islamophobic assailant in Oregon.
Keith Ellison – the only elected Muslim to Congress – has deemed Trump’s silence “an outrage.”
White House Deputy Assistant Sebastian Gorka publicly mused that the attack might be a false flag perpetrated by leftists.
Gorka is an avowed racist. The Hungarian-American was a member of Vitézi Rend, a far-right Hungarian organization that collaborated with the Nazis during WWII. He wore a medal commemorating the organization to Trump’s Inaugural Ball in January.
With a committed white nationalist serving as a chief counter-terrorism official in the White House, there is little wonder that the Trump Administration has devalued the safety and wellbeing of marginalized groups that serve as scapegoats for Trump’s radical right-wing support base.
