Yesterday’s hearing before the Senate judiciary subcommittee – which featured former acting Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper – left the public with a bit of a bombshell: the Trump Administration knew about Michael Flynn’s vulnerability to blackmail for a full 18 days before he was asked to resign.
During that time period he traveled the world and had access to highly sensitive information. This isn’t just embarrassing for Trump, it’s damning, and marks a dark turn in the ongoing investigation into his administration’s ties with Russian agents.
Outside of Yates confirming this detail, the next most remarkable part of the hearing was Yates expert take-down of two Republican senators looking to distract from the conversation at hand.
Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn decided that the hearing was a perfect opportunity to roast Yates for not defending Trump’s unconstitutional travel ban on Muslims, which was ostensibly the reason she was fired by the embattled Trump Administration. The public shaming that the two extremist conservatives sought didn’t really pan out, however, as Yates handled them with aplomb. Footage of each senator getting shot down below:
