As we covered on Impact Tap, Chechnya authorities are allegedly rounding up gay men and putting them into detention centers filled with torture and abuse. In fact, they sound eerily similiar to concentration camps.

One horrifying account from The Guardian taken from a survivor of the anti-LGBTQ violence who was able to flee Chechnya details shock torture, which was accompanied by beatings with blunt objects. Reports indicate that at least three individuals have been summarily executed, though the actually numbers could be much higher.

Former VP Joe Biden released a statement on the atrocities: “I hope that the current administration lives up to the promises it has made to advance human rights for everyone by raising this issue directly with Russia’s leaders.”

Trump – the flailing neophyte who may shake up his staff in the coming weeks in an effort to save face following a string of embarrassing defeats – has remained silent, however.

There is something you can do to help. GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis has started a campaign to compel UN ambassador Nikki Haley to address the ongoing persecution in Chechnya before the United Nations.

You can reach Haley via this form.
